Tackling real-world problems through Interdisciplinary Collaboration (TIC)

Investing in the future (Institutions for Open Societies)

Our world faces a series of intractable and interwoven crises, from climate change, environmental degradation,  pollution and biodiversity loss to increasing wealth inequality, colonialism, racism, sexism and other forms of structural discrimination. Against this backdrop, international discourse has begun to focus on the need for fundamental systemic change in ways in which human societies organize themselves and provide needs and goods like energy, food, or housing. Achieving this systems change is neither simple nor easy. Among other things, it will require a tremendous amount of capital, and a profound shift in the ways in which investment is understood and undertaken.

The Investing in the Future track puts students at the forefront of this challenge. Under the guidance of the Deep Transitions Lab, students will work on a challenge set by one of our societal partners (Triodos) to develop new ideas, tools, and approaches that enable a different way of investing in change. Our goal is to plant a seed at the heart of the current financial system, growing into an alternative vision which catalyses, accelerates and consolidates just and sustainable transitions.

Further information on the specific challenge set by Triodos will follow.
