Youths on the Move (Dynamics of Youth)

Set in the strategic theme of Dynamics of Youth, this challenge focuses on the theme of Youths on the Move. Young people are particularly sensitive to geographical relocation, especially when adapting to a different cultural environment. These relocations can unsettle social networks, disrupt education, and challenge their sense of stability, potentially threatening their visions of the future. Relocation can also affect health in a broad sense, including physical well-being, mental health, emotional resilience, and access to healthcare. From a human rights perspective, young people have the right to health, schooling, safety, inclusion, and protection from discrimination, regardless of origin or migration status. However, these rights may be at risk during transitions across cultural, social, and institutional contexts. Addressing these challenges requires solutions that safeguard and enhance their quality of life, building resilience and a sense of belonging in new settings. Because this is a complex and multifaceted issue, it calls for contributions from multiple disciplines, including psychology, education, social sciences, medicine, law, and public policy. The challenge invites participants to design and implement tailored interventions and supportive systems. The goal is to help relocated youths thrive physically, mentally, socially, and academically, while recognizing how social, cultural, health, and policy dimensions shape their opportunities, rights, and futures.
